Factitious Disorders definition
False creation of physical/psychological symptoms or deceptive production of injury or disease even WITHOUT external rewards for ailments. Taking meds to produce illness, denial that it is fake
Malingering
Individual falsely claims or grossly exaggerates physical/psychological problems for external gain. Reasons could be a plea of insanity or financial compensation
Somatic symptom disorder
Person experiences repeated, excessive thoughts about the seriousness of their illness, disproportionate amounts of time/energy spent on the symptoms and their health implications, continually high anxiety over health
The two types of somatic symptom disorders
Somatization pattern (large and varied number of symptoms) and Predominant pain pattern (primarily focused on pain)
Psychological factors affecting other medical conditions (aka psychosomatic disorders, aka psychophysiological disorders)
Presence of a medical condition, psychological factors affect medical condition. Ex: ulcers, asthma, insomnia, migraine headaches, hypertension
Depressants
Slow activity of the nervous system. Substances: Alcohol, sedatives, opioids
Stimulants
Increased activity of the central nervous system. Substances: cocaine, amphetamines
Male Hypoactive Sexual Desire
Lasts 6 mos, repeatedly experiences few or no sexual thoughts, fantasies or desires
Female sexual interest/arousal disorder
Reduction of sexual interest, fantasy, thought, initiation, receptiveness, and distress. Lasts 6 mos
Affectual awareness
Visualize sex scenes in order to discover any feelings of anxiety, vulnerability, and other negative emotions they may have during sex
Cognitive self-instruction changing
Clients learn to replace negative statements during sex with coping statements
Paraphilia
Sexual urges, fantasies, and/or behaviors that exist outside societal sexual norms
Four categories of sexual dysfunction
Disorders of desire, excitement, orgasm, and sexual pain
