Exam 3 Pictures Flashcards
Identify the arrow
Phlebolith
Identify the circled area
Calcified rib cartilages
Identify the arrows
Riedel lobe of the liver. A tonguelike projection of the right lobe of the liver may extend to the iliac crest.
Identify the pathology
Hepatomegaly.
Identify the pathology & arrows
Splenomegaly
White: Spleen
Black: 12th posterior rib
Identify the arrows
Solid White Arrows: Both kidney outlines
Solid Black Arrows: Ureters
Dotted White Arrow: Liver
Dotted Black Arrow: Urinary Bladder
Identify the pathology
Enlarged kidney
(Renal Cyst)
Identify the arrows & other markers
A, The distended bladder (B) is a soft tissue mass that ascends from the pelvis into the lower abdomen displacing the bowel into the midabdomen (solid black arrows)
B, The uterus (U) is slightly enlarged. Distinguished from bladder via fat plane (solid white arrows) seen between uterus and urinary bladder (B).
Identify the arrow
Sentinel loops from pancreatitis.
Identify the arrows
Step-ladder appearance of obstructed small bowel.
Identify the arrows
Mechanical small bowel obstruction. Even though there is some air visible in the right colon (solid white arrow), the overall bowel gas pattern is one of disproportionate dilation of multiple loops of small bowel (solid black arrows) consistent with a mechanical small bowel obstruction.
Identify the pathology
Partial small bowel obstruction. This allows some gas to pass the point of obstrcution, possibly on an intermitttent basis.
Identify the circled pathology & arrow
Small bowel obstruction from inguinal hernia.
Circle: Inguinal hernia
Arrow: Dilated loops of small bowel.
Identify the pathology & arrows.
Mechanical large bowel obstruction.
The entire colon is dilated (dotted white arrows) to a cut-off point in the distal descending colon (solid white arrow)
Identify the pathology
Sigmoid volvulus. There is a massively dilated sigmoid colon (solid white line) twisted upon itself in the pelvis (solid black arrow)
