Glomerulonephritis
A
inflammation that’s occuring and obstructing the glomerulus (auto-immune reaction specific to kidneys)
- Inflammation caused by group A strep
- Increase in plasma volume
- Occurs 1-3 weeks after strep infection
- urine is cloudy, smoky, brown, decreased
- Patient is pale, poor appetite
- Observe symptoms, urine specific, blood test, chest x-ray

- Rust colored urine
- Periorbital edema
- Generalized swelling
- Can present as secondary infection to strep

- Antibodies draw (ASO titers)

A
- Low salt diet, low protein diet
- Diuretics
- Monitor BUN, Cr, K levels
- ACE Inhibitors, Ca Channel Blockers
- Penicillin
- Steroids
- Monitor I’s and O’s

- Low sodium
- Low phosphorus
- Limit fluids and electrolytes
- Kids need it for growth, don’t limit protein
