Authorizes a person or company to act as an agent for a principal.
Power of attorney (POA)
Gives a person full power to act as an agent.
General POA
Gives the agent power to act for the principal for one deal.
Limited POA
An agent can make health care decisions on the principal’s behalf should the principal be unable to make such decisions.
Medical POA
A document that specifies that the patient does not want to be resuscitated.
Living will/DNR
A person or company that agrees to act for, or in place of, another person or company. Provided with authority to do so.
Agent
Termination of an employee must be based on a good reason. In most states, including Texas, there doesn’t have to be a good reason to terminate.
Good Faith (exception in California)
When a person is hired over another person of discriminated race.
Disparate treatment
When a person isn’t hired due to their physical inability. EX: A woman not being hired as a cop because she can’t lift 100 lbs 10 times in 1 minute.
Disparate impact
