Ultrasound
Nursing care: provide skin care by removing gel after procedure
Complications: minimal risk to client
CT
Nursing care:
Complications: Contrast dye can cause kidney damage.
MRI
Nursing actions: Clients lie down and have to remain completely still. No metal implants.
Complications: Poor imaging if a client is unable to lie still.
Types of UA
Early morning, clean catch, 24 hour, c/s, random
Client education for 24 hour urine
Void before starting timer.
Every drop needs to enter the container
Keep on ice
Educate patient that they must void into this container every time they have to go.
Cystography post
Monitor for infection for the first 72 hours after procedure
Monitor urine output.
Encouraged increase fluid intake to decrease burning on urination.
Cystography complications
UTI: infection due to cath
Cystoscopy is used t0?
discover abnormalities of bladder wall and or occlusions or ureter or urethra.
Nursing actions for pre Cystoscopy?
NPO after midnight
admin laxatives, enemas for bowel prep the night before the procedure
Nursing actions intra cystoscopy
Monitor vs, lithotomy position
Nursing actions for post cystoscopy?
Monitor vs/ urine ouput
document color of urine( can be pink tinged)
Irrigate if blood clots are present or urine output is decreased.
Irrigate cath with normal saline
Complications of Cystoscopy
UTI: cloudy, burning, foul odor, urgency.
Positive UTI test, what will be present?
Positive leukocyte esterase, nitrites, sediment and rbc.
IV pyelogram does what?
Identifies obstruction or structural disorders of the ureters and renal pelvis of the kidneys.
Same as Cystoscopy for procedures. complications.
