What is the ratio method?
A way of being able to calculate how much of a medication we need for administer based off what we have in stock.
How do we add our numbers into the Ratio Method?
You put the amount of medication you have in stock to the left and what you want to the right. Put the units for the quantity of the medication at the top (25mg ect) and put the value of this down the bottom (1 tab or 5ml ect).
How do we find out missing value (what the patient is prescribed) using the ratio method? (Bottom right)
- Multiply diagnonal from bottom left to upper right.
- Divide across. Upper Right to Upper Left.
- This answer will be the missing value for the bottom right.
