Exam 2 structures labeling Flashcards
Lumbar Vertebra: Name the structures 1-7

1) Vertebral body 2) Vertebral foramen 3) Pedicle 4) Transverse process 5) Superior articular process 6) Lamina 7) Spinous process Bonus: 8- Mamillary process, 9- accessory process…but we don’t need to know these for the exam :)

Lumbar Vertebrae: Name structures 1-5

1) Anulus fibrosus 2) Nucleus pulposus 3) Superior articular process 4) Pedicle 5) Intervertebral disc

Lumbar Vertebrae: Name structures 7-12

7) Inferior articular process 8) Inferior vertebral notch 9) Intervertebral notch 10) Superior vertebral notch 11) Transverse process 12) Lamina

Cervical Vertebrae: Name structures 1-7

1) Vertebral body 2) Transverse process 3) Transverse foramen 4) Pedicle 5) Lamina 6) Dens 7) Spinous processes

Thoracic Vertebrae: Structures 1-6

1) Vertebral foramen 2) Lamina 3) Pedicle 4) Body 5) Inferior articular process and facet 6) Spinous process (Hang in there…almost done with vertebrae!)

Thoracic Vertebrae: Structures 7-10

7) Inferior vertebral notch 8) Inferior costal facet 9) Transverse costal facet 10) Superior costal facet

Name muscles 1-3
What’s that big muscle that’s been cut on the right but is shown on the left?

1) Splenius capitus 2) Splenius cervicis 3) Semispinalis capitus *Trapezius muscle shown on left

Structures 1/2 & 3/4

1-2: Semispinalis capitis & semispinalis cervicis is just deep to capitis
3-4: Splenius capitus & splenius cervicis is more inferior
(sorry, these are confusing…just look at them in lab)

Intrinsic back muscles are tough…so just look at the cadaver and also look at this picture showing the longissimus capitis, because we need to know it too

Great, let’s move on.

What are these structures?

Scalene muscles (anterior, medial, posterior)

Name these muscles

1) Longus capitis 2) Longus colli

Name muscles 1-4

1) Omohyoid 2) Sternohyoid 3) Thyrohyoid 4) Stylohyoid

Name muscles 5-7

5) Digastric (posterior belly) 6) Sternocleidomastoid 7) Scalenes (ant, med, post)

Name structures 1-3 & 5-6

1) Thyrohyoid m. 2) Common carotid a. 3) Sternohyoid m. 5) Internal jugular vein 6) External jugular v.

Name structures 2, 4, 5

2) Thyroid cartilage 4) Hyoid bone 5) Cricoid cartilage (Fun fact: 1 is the cricothyroid muscle)

Name structures 1 & 3-7

1) Sternothyroid m. 3) Hyoid bone 4) Thyroid cartilage 5) Cricoid cartilage 6) Thyroid gland 7) Trachea

Name structures 1-4

1) Sternohyoid m. 2) Omohyoid m. (sup. belly) 3) Omohyoid m. (inf. belly) 4) Thyrohyoid m.

Ok one more time for strap muscles…name structures 1 & 3-7

1) Platysma 3) Thyrohyoid 4) Omohyoid 5) Sternohyoid 6) Sternothyroid 7) Sternocleidomastoid (Bonus: 2 is mylohyoid m.)

Name structures 1 & 4

1) Lateral pterygoid m. 4) Medial pterygoid m.

Name muscles 1 & 4

1) Masseter 4) Temporalis m. (2 is the parotid duct!)

Don’t freak out, there’s a lot going on here. What are structures 4,6 & 7?

4) Sublingual gland 6) Submandibular gland 7) Parotid gland (Bonus: 1- branches of CN VII)

Name structures 1-3. What kind of tonsils are here?

1) Uvula 2) Palatopharyngeus m. (arch) 3) Palatoglossus m. (arch) *Palatine tonsils

What are structures 1 & 7?

1) Frontal sinus 7) Sphenoid sinus

Name structures 2, 4, & 8

2) Middle nasal concha 4) Inferior nasal concha 8) Pituitary gland (Fun fact: 5 is the opening of the eustachian tube)

Name the Nerves that would come out of each of the labled foramen

Optic canal:
-Optic Nerve
Superior Orbital fissure:
- Oculomotor nerve
- Trochlear
- Abducens
- V1
