*Response outside the norm - void of emotions, disproportionate expressions of grief, prolonged period
Risk Factors for complicated grief?i
- Death of a spouse or child, parent (especially) in early childhood or adolescence
- Unexpected, untimely or multiple death, murder or suicide
- Low self-esteem, mistrust, psychiatric disorders, previous suicide threats or attempts, absent/unhelpful family, ambivalent attachment, dependent or interdependent attachment to deceased, insecure attachment to parents in childhood, learned helplessness
