Exam 2 Review - Chapter 7 Flashcards
How do you convert a z score into a raw score?
z(standard deviation) + mean
What does the z test assume?
- The DV is a scale variable
- Random sampling and selection
- The IV is nominal
What distinguishes parametric and nonparametric tests?
Parametric tests means that the inferences made are based on assumptions about the population.
What is an alpha level/p level?
The “acceptable” risk of a type I error
What is a critical value?
A test statistic value beyond which we reject the null hypothesis. (Also called a cutoff)
What is a critical region?
Where the critical value is. (One tailed tests have one, and two tailed tests have two)
How do you use a z test for hypothesis testing?
You check if the score in question is beyond the critical values.
Hypotheses are about ______
the population.
What can the one tailed test determine?
Whether something is greater than, lesser than, greater than or equal to, and lesser than or equal to.
What can the two tailed test determine?
Whether or not something is equal.
