Psychopathology
the study of psychological disorders, their causes, symptoms, and treatment. It can also be defined as the manifestation of a disorder.
Comorbid
the presence of 2 or more disorders within an individual
Differential Diagnosis
the presence of symptoms that fit the criteria of more than 1 disorder but through elimination can lead to a focused treatment.
Etiology
the causes of a mental disorder
Prevalence
the percentage of a disorder in a population
Lifetime Prevalence
the percentage of a population who at some point in their life have had a certain mental disorder
Delusion
a fixed, false belief that cannot be corrected with logic.
Hallucination
a false perception of reality without any external stimulation
Rumination
repetitive thinking or dwelling on negative feelings and distress
Obsession
a persistent and intrusive thought that causes distressing emotions
Mood
emotional makeup of a person’s personality, their persistent feelings
Affect
person’s outward expression of an emotion
Euthymic Mood
a calm, normal state or mood
Dysphoric Mood
a consistent state of unhappiness and dissatisfaction
Euphoric Mood
intense feelings of well being and happiness
