Diazepam
Detox medication and to help with symptoms of anxiety/risk of seizures. A substitution therapy during alcohol withdrawal.
Methadone
A substitute for an opioid. It can be used for withdrawal and long-term maintenance
Naloxone
An antidote for opioid overdose and to relieve effects of toxicity. Can be given IM, SQ, IV, but mostly nasal spray
Disuflriam
Given for abstinence maintenance of alcohol. When patient is taking, if they drink alcohol they will vomit, nausea, sweating, palpitations, hypotension. AVOID ALCOHOL PRODUCTS (hand sanitizer, aftershave, mouthwash). Effects last for TWO WEEKS AFTER STOPPING.
Alprazolam
Benzodiazepine sedative hypnotic anxiolytic. Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants. Avoid abrupt discontinuation
Fluoxetine
SSRI. Takes 1-3 weeks for pharmacological benefits start. Monitor for increased risk of suicide or self harm during 1-3 week period.
Greatest risk of developing PTSD/stress/anxiety disorders
Women who have four or more ACEs or a history of interpersonal violence
Main depression neurotransmitter(s)
Serotonin main one. Norepinephrine, dopamine.
