Perception
Interpretation of in-coming sensory information

Orientation
Ongoing awareness of the current situation, the environment, and the passage of time.
Attention
Active process that allows the individual’s focus on the environmental information and sensations relevant at a particular time. Includes sustained, selective, alternating, and divided.
Memory
Allows a person to retain and recall information. Short to long term. Includes working memory and various types of memory such as procedural, prospective, semantic, and episodic.
Thought functions
Including recognition, categorization, and being able to generalize ideas.
Higher-level cognitive functions
Such as insight/judgment, awareness, concept formation, metacognition, and mental flexibility.
