What is an example of a patient with physical disabilities that are a barrier to education?
Blindness
When is a person considered legally blind?
20/200 vision or worse

20-degree restricted field (restricted to 20 degrees)
Define disability.
An impairment that causes SUBSTANTIAL limitation in one or more MAJOR LIFE ACTIVITIES.
Substantial: Limited more than the average American not more than the individual’s cohort
For example. A police officer with a color vision anomaly does NOT count as a disability because the average American doe NOT need to have normal color vision to function
Major Life Activities:
Walking, Talking, Breathing, Reading, Working
What does this mean: Social Security is an Entitlement Law
The government will give you money if you qualify. If you can prove permanent blindness, you can qualify for social security due to disability
What is outlined in the IDEA S504 and AADA?
Equal access must be provided in all businesses that are open to the public (ex. Wheelchair accessibility)

If there is any suspected issue in a 0-3-year-old, a battery of tests are run and interventions are made to optimize a child’s development
