  1. DENIAL: individual will reject the notion that their hearing is an issue and will deny help because you can’t seek help for something that does not exist.
  2. ANGER: individual may be angry at him/herself for not taking measures to protect his/her hearing when s/he was younger, and this anger may get directed at the family.
  3. BARGAINING: bargain with God for the problem to go away.
  4. DEPRESSION: the isolation of not being able to hear well and not wanting to accept the problem can lead to feelings of sadness and helplessness.
  5. ACCEPTANCE: when the individual is ready to make a positive change in his/her life by getting hearing aids.
