Exam 2 Flashcards
What does the brain stem control?
It controls breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure.
What does the cerebellum control?
It controls balance and motor coordination.
What does the limbic system control?
It controls memory, emotion, and social behaviors.
what does the cerebral cortex control?
It controls high order thinking and problem solving.
What is the cornea?
Transparent front part of the eye. Responsible for refracting light to increase focus of an image.
What is the pupil?
The black circular opening in the iris that lets light in. Size is adjusted to control the amount of light entering the eye.
What is the Iris?
The colored part of the eye, controlling the amount of light that enters by adjusting the size of the pupil
What is the lens?
Transparent biconvex structure in the eye that helps to refract light to be focused on the retina.
What is the retina?
Light sensitive layer at the back of the eye containing rods and cones which convert light into neural signals
What is the optic nerve?
Transmits visual info from the retina to the brain.
What are rods in the eye?
Photoreceptor cells in the retina responsible for vision in low light conditions, but they do not mediate color vision
What are cones in the eye?
Photoreceptor cells in the retina responsible for color vision and function best in bright light
What is the auditory canal?
Channels the sound of waves from the pinna to the eardrum
What is the malleus?
The eardrum vibrates, and the malleus starts the process of transmitting these vibrations to incus
What is the incus?
Acts as a bridge, transferring vibrations between malleus and stapes bones
