- Lyrics – a new sense of seriousness was found in the lyrics, as they often spoke of major issues of social and political importance
- Demographics– the music was geared not towards teens but towards the collage-aged population (18-24)
- Albums – The trend moved towards the sales of LP’s rather than money to spend- and a longer attention span
- Instrumentation – acoustic instrumentation only- electronic instrumentation was considered artificial and with it, the music wasn’t ‘real’
