Exam 2 Flashcards
What are the 4 main types of tissue in the human body?
Nervous, Muscle, Epithelial, Connective
What are the steps to creating a histology slide?
Fixation (preservation), cut into slices, stained.
Where is simple squamous epithelium located?
kidney glomeruli, air sacs of lungs, lining of heart, blood vessels, and lymphatic vessels; serosae
Where is simple cuboidal epithelium located?
kidney tubules, ducts and secretory portions of small glands, ovary surface
Where is simple columnar epithelium located?
digestive tract (stomach to rectum), gallbladder, excretory ducts of some glands; ciliated variety lines small bronchi, uterine tubes, and some regions of the uterus
Where is pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium located?
trachea, upper respiratory tract, and non-ciliated can be found in sperm ducts and ducts of large glands
Where is stratified squamous epithelium located?
Non-keratinized- Esophagus, mouth, vagina
Keratinized-epidermis, dry epithelium
Where is transitional epithelium located?
Uterus, bladder, part of the urethra
Which type of gland contains ducts?
Endocrine
Which type of gland loses its ducts during development?
Exocrine
What are the types of connective tissues?
proper, cartilage, bone, blood,
What is the difference between white and brown adipose tissue?
White: stores and releases lipids
Brown: oxidizes lipids to fuel thermogenesis
What is fibrosis?
Fibrosis occurs when ECM proteins accumulate in excessive amounts, leading to scarring that distorts the normal layout and stiffness of the tissue.
What are cleavage lines?
represent separations between underlying collagen fiber bundles in the reticular dermis
What are flexure lines?
These from where the dermis is closely attached to the underlying structures
