What is a Setting?
The times and places in which a story unfolds, and the norms and expectations that are associated with that time and place
What is Point of View?
The reader’s perspective on the events of the narrative.
What is Third Person P.O.V
The he/she/they perspective. The reader “watches” the events of the narrative unfold from without – and his held outside of them by the aforementioned pronouns
What are the types of Third person Narratives?
- Third Person Omniscient
- Third Person Limited
- Third Person Objective
What is Third Person Omniscient?
Stories told by an all-knowing “Eye of God” narrator, who can tell us everything that’s happening inside and outside of every character at any given time.
What is Third Person Limited?
A third-person limited narrator can only tell us one particular character’s thoughts, can only describe a room as it’s seen through one particular character’s eyes, and so on.
What is Third Person Objective?
In third-person objective narrative, the narrator only reports what can be observed empirically. Readers have to infer or intuit emotions, intentions, and so on, from the pure, unadorned facts.
What is Second Person Point of View?
The Point of View where you, the reader, are the main character, having the experiences described.
What is First Person Point of View?
Narrated by a character who speaks and identifies as “I” and who is usually directly involved in the action or events of the narrative – usually as the main character and protagonist
