What are the signs of a pressure ulcer?
Pale or greyed skin, warm reddened area
Complains of pain, burning, itching, or tingling in the area
When checking a pt. what should you look for?
Look for redness over bony prominences
If redness present, relive pressure immediately and recheck in 30mins
Inform supervisor
What is Angina (pectoris)
Chest pain from reduced blood flow to a part of the heart muscle caused by CAD
Occurs when the heart muscle needs more oxygen
What are the S&S of Angina?
Chest pain, tightness, heaviness, or pressure in the left side of the chest
Pain often described as stabbing pain
Dyspnea is common (SOB)
What is Myocardial infarction (MI)?
Heart attack
What is apnea?
Temporary cessation (stop) of breathing
What is expectoration?
Coughing up & spitting up secretions from the lungs, bronchi and trachea
What is sputum?
Mucous secretion from the lungs, bronchi and trachea, which is ejected through the mouth

Stooped posture and impaired balance
Mask-like expression
What preventions can be taken for pressure ulcers
Applying special mattresses or pillows
Alternate position
Applying protectors to pressure areas
Using lift sheets to move pts. up in bed
Encouraging adequate nutrition and fluid intake
