Teasers

Proscenium
the opening in the wall which stands between the stage & auditorium in some theatres; the picture frame through which the audience sees the play; “the fourth wall”
Wings
The right and left backstage areas where actos wait before going onstage
Crossfade
When one set of lights fades out as another set comes up on the stage, allowing the lighted area onstage to change before the audience’s eyes

Apron
Aka orchestra pit, ahead of proscenium line
Swatch
small pieces of fabric used by costume designers that help them imagine and bring costume to life
Trap
theatrical term for a door in the stage floor for the raising and lowering of actors or scener

Spotlight
intense beam of light directly on to a place or person
Flood light
basic theatrical lighting instruments, consisting of primarily of a reflector box and a lamp, usually attached to a yoke to allow the instrument to be hung; often used in the theater for color washes, or left uncolored for use as work lights.
