For him, it’s about the actual act of painting, while Greenberg is about the form of the painting. His own term is action painting.

A

1951 makes a famous short film of Pollock at work.

This film and the stills that were taken of Pollock at work were incredibly influential on the art work…to see how he did it.

A

Greenburg likes him because his art seems to be all about painting itself.

He understands academic rules, but breaks them.

Makes his brushstrokes very visible, doesn’t try to hide anything about his paining. Greenburg likes this honesty of the painting.
