Exam 1 Flashcards
Types of building loads
Static- dead Dynamic Live Compression Tension Point loads Moment Uniform No uniform Deflection Shear Non load bearing wall Load bearing wall
Static load
Leadings that remain fixed (structure, built in amenities, and equipment)
Dynamic loads
Leadings the fluctuate due to natural events (wind and earth quakes)
Live loads
Loads that gradually fluctuate overtime (people, water(rain), snow and mobile equipment)
Compression
The pushing together of a material that results in a deduction in depth and volume
Tension
The stretching of a material that results in a deformation of elongation
Point loads
A smaller singular point of contact
Moment
A rotational force causing something to bend clockwise or counter clockwise
Uniform
A force spread over an area with even pressure and loading
Nonuniform
A variable force spread over an area of pressure and loading
Deflection
The bending deformation caused when a beam or a column is expirencing a load
Shear
The movement of parallel forces moving in opposite directions
Non load bearing wall
A wall assembly that only supports its own weight
Load bearing wall
A wall assembly that supports its own weight and spread the top load over its entire surface
Way to test hydration in concrete
Slump test
