Exam 1 Flashcards
Pelger-Huet Anomaly
Failure of neutrophils to segment, animal is healthy just looks like bands
Birman Cat Neutrophil granulation anomaly
50% of these cats have distinct granules in there neutrophils
Chediak-Higashi Syndrome
In Persian cats, fusion of lysosomes in the cytoplasm of neutrophils (melanin granuals fuse also)
Acquired lymphocyte vacuolation
Ingestion of plants containing swansonine(locoweed), results in inhibition of lysosomal storage disease similar to alpha-mannosidosis
leukocyte responses inflammation
neutrophils consumed during inflammation leads to increased production and release form bone marrow
Decreased MCHC(mean cell hemoglobin concentration) tells us
Usually due to regenerative anemia form presence of many reticulocytes
An artificial increase in MCHC(mean cell Hemoglobin concentration) can be because of?(three things)
Hemolysis, Lipemia, and Heinz body anemia
-penia
Decrease in number of something
-philia or -cytosis
Increase in number of something
Left shift
Increase in band neutrophils(mostly b/c of inflammation)
Neutrophil Toxic Changes =
Accelerated rate of production seen with inflammation, resulting in persistence of ribosomes. (b/c of Increased basophilia of cytoplasm, presence of dohle bodies, and cytoplasmic vacuolatioins)
Inflammatory Leukogram you would see?
Neutrophilia(greater than 2x the upper reference interval) or Left Shift.
Stress Leukogram you would see?
Neutrophilia and Lymphopenia
Excitment Leukogram you would see?
Lymphocytosis(increase in epi) and Possible neutrophilia
Heinz Body Anemia
Denatued hemoglobin caused by oxidative damage leaves a little blip on the outer membrane
