The general meaning is “Good News”. It was originally applied to having victory in battle. When we proclaim victory in Jesus, we are proclaiming the Gospel.

Jesus Resurrection happened in 30 AD but the Gospels weren’t written until the mid 50s.

Order of Gospels
It is strongly believed that Mark was written first.
When, and to whom was Matthew written?
Between 60-65 AD and to the Jews.
Synoptic Gospels
Matthew, Mark, Luke describe similar events and in a similar order. Unlike John, in which the content is comparatively different.

Pharisee
Name derived from an Aramaic term meaning “separate”
They could be referred to as “Separated ones”
Pharisee “Two Schools of Thought”
Hillel: revolutionized rabbinic thought with a new method of exegesis which allowed for more liberalized interpretation of the law.
Shammai: More strict and more conservative interpretation.
Shammai binds, Hillel loosens.
Saducees
Priestly aristocrats who rejected almost everything the Pharisees believed. Did not believe in:
Angels, Spirits, Resurrection, last judgment, life after death, divine providence or the coming Messiah
Essenes
A strict, highly disciplined community that rejected luxury, most lived in celibacy.
Zealots
Agree with the Pharisees, but are intolerant of being ruled politically by anyone other than God.
