Q

Duppioni

A

created with the threads from two different silk worms. When two worms spin their cocoons close together, the fibers get tangled up; these naturally tangled fibers are then used together to make the silk thread. The thread is rougher than regular silk, and contains bumps and irregularities where the fibers from the two cocoons are combined. Silk dupioni takes dye well and is usually easy to sew.

A

a smooth leather tanned with willow, birch, or oak, and scented on the flesh side with birch oil
leather - an animal skin made smooth and flexible by removing the hair and then tanning

24
Q

Aniline Dyes

A

Leather is immersied in an aniline ddye bath withou pigment or other opaque materials in the top finish so the grain pattern is fully exposed. Translucent.

25
Q

Vegetable Dyes

A

extracted from trees. Resultes in leathers resilient and springy hand and its mellow charm as it ages. Tends to fade in sunlight.

26
Q

Horsehide

A

Tanned with the hair on. Stron and soft and can be silscreened to imitate the color patterns of endangeres species such as lepards, jaguars, and tigers.

27
Q

Full Grain leather

A

Treated to retain its natural grain or texture, including imperfections. Usually premium leathers that are without noticeable flaws.
\

28
Q

Mercerization

A

The exposure of the yarn or greige fabric to sodium hydroxide or to liquid ammonia. Makes for greater strength and absorption of dyes.
