What important message does Douglass have about Christianity in the epilogue?
He says that he is a supporter of Christianity, and that if anything in his book came across as anti-religious then it was because that person wasn’t a true Christian. He also says that people are more Christian in the North than in the South
How is ignorance used as a tool for slavery? Or how can education set a slave free?
Learning to read is what started Douglass on the path to freedom. The more his knowledge grew, the more he knew about slavery and how it was wrong. Learning to read and to write directly helped Douglass to escape slavery.
How does slavery negatively impact slaveholders as well?
Sophia Auld was turned into a cruel master, so that she could raise her slave appropriately. Being nice to a slave is looked down upon.
