1-Theology is biblical. It takes as the primary source of its content the canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.

3-Theology also relates to the issues of general culture and learning. It relates it’s views to science, psychology, and philosophy.
4-Theology must be contemporary. It must use language, concepts , and thought forms that make some sense in the context of the present time.
5-Theology is to be practical. Theology relates to living rather than merely to belief.

Define General Revelation.
God’s communication of Himself to all persons at all times and in all places. God’s self-manifestation through nature, history, and the inner being of the human person.
What are the 3 “loci” of General Revelation?
1-Nature- a knowledge of God available through the created physical order.
2-History - God is moving the course of history, controlling the destinies of nations and it should be possible to detect the trend of His works in events that occur as part of history.
3-The human - It is in the moral and spiritual qualities of humankind that God’s character is best perceived.
What are the 4 traditional arguments for the existence of God that arise from General Revelation?
1-Cosmological Argument (creation)
2-Teleological Argument (design)
3-Anthropological Argument (moral)
4-Ontological Argument (being)
What is the Cosmological Argument?
- Everything we know is caused by something else.
- There cannot be an infinite regress of causes because then the series of causes could have never begun.
- Therefore, there must be an uncaused cause, a necessary being.
What is the Teleological Argument?
- Every design has a designer.
- The universe has highly complex design.
- Therefore, the universe had a highly complex designer.
What is the Anthropological Argument?
- Every law has a lawgiver.
- There is a moral law.
- Therefore, there is a Moral Lawgiver.
What is the Ontological Argument?
- We have an idea of a Most Perfect Being.
- The idea of a Most Perfect Being includes existence, since a Being otherwise perfect, who did not exist would not be so perfect as a being who did exist.
- Therefore, since the idea of existence is contained in the iea of the Most Perfect Being, the Most Perfect Being must exist.
What are the main Bible passage used to defend General Revelation?
1-Psalm 19
2-Romans 1.18-32 and 2.14-16
3-Acts 14.15-17 and 17.22-31
What does Psalm 19 teach?
The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.
What does Romans 1.18-32 teach?
No excuse!
What does Romans 2.14-16 teach?
Gentiles have the work of the law written on their hearts.
