What is Homeostasis
“maintenance of nearly constant conditions in the internal environment.”
What is the Internal Environment?
It can be thought of as extracellular fluid surrounding the cells of the body.
What is extra cellular fluid (ECF)?
- It contains ions/nutrients needed by cells to function (i.e. to maintain life)
- The cells of the body exist in essentally the same extra cellular fluid.
This extra cellular fluid is in equilibrium through the body.
