Anton Chekov
Chekov played a vital role in Russian society by his writing of the island of sakhlin that shows the Russian people their first exposure to terrible living conditions and treatment of prisoners/workers on the island. Chekov’s writing is seen as an outstanding representative of late 19th century Russian realism.
Isaak Babel
Babels writings reflected what it was like growing up Jewish in Russia and the persecution he faced. Babel impacted Russian literatyre by giving perspective on being a minority during a time of a violent social upheaval
Vladimir Mayakovsky
one of the founders of russian futurism, want to shock with new styles, themes, and appearances. Mayakovsky’s writings embody a spirit of the russian revolution and communism
Maxim Gorky
Gorky became the prototype for the socialist realism and was seen as the father of socialist realism. Gorky also helped many other authors survive and publish as head of the soviet writer’s union.
Lev Tolstroy
considered one of the greatest Russian novelists, Tolstoy used his writings to criticize the ruling regime and unnecessary uses of violence. Tolstoy was able to give perspective on colonized people and religon through his literature, opening up readers minds from the norm.
Trans Siberian Railroad
the trans-siberian railroad helped in migrating 4 million Russian peasants to Siberia, which helped ease population pressure in central Russia. The railroad was important for Russian culture because it helped bring cheap goods to Russian markets and gave an outlet for products from Russia’s developing heavy industry. The Railroad gave Russia control over the resources of Siberia and Central Asia.
Revolution of 1917
The revolution of 1917 played an important part in Russian culture because it brought wide-ranging civil liberties, freed political prisoners, gave women the right to vote, and abolished discrimination against ethnic and religious minorities. The revolution was also the cause of the Bolkshekivs coming into power and replacing the imperial government, leading to the core idea of communism which is a large part of Russian Identity.
Orthodoxy
orthodoxy was introduced to unify thr tribes because even though paganism was dominant Rus’ was separated in religion. A large part of Russian culture is the beauty of their cathedrals and churches. Orthodoxy became so dominant because of the culture significance of the church practices and aesthetics that had a large impact on the people.
Ours or Other
Represented a strong national identity that was unitary and gave the nation a way to bring culture together. Phrase brought a shared narrative to the people and legitimized the peoples eight to rule themselves through their chosen leaders who are like themselves.
old believers
the old believers had a significant influence on russian culture from their production of patrons of the arts and charities, creators of innovative industrial technology, and collectors. They also plated a large rate in putting together collections for museums in Russia as well as developing preforming arts
peasants
the peasants helped continue to the expansion of Russian imperialism, voluntary or involuntary. the peasants coveted the lands of large landowners which jolted peasant uprisings throughout this period.
Russian marxists
realized that the societies of the future were going to be based on industrial economy. Russian Marxists became reality when marxism grew to popularity and started defining Russian government
the provisional government
Despite only having a short amount of time in power, the provisional government passed very progressive legislation. This form of government granted more freedoms to previously suppressed regions of the Russian Empire
