Exam 1 Flashcards
Most common knee ligament injury
MCL or Tibial Collateral Lig.
What are the two layers of the MCL?
Superficial- primary restraint to valgus stress
Deep- adds stability and has a attachment to the medial meniscus
MCL mechanism of injury
Valgus force
Typically CKC force with knee at 0 degrees or <90 degrees
Signs and Sx of MCL tear
Localized Swelling
Tenderness
Pain with valgus force
NO hemarthrosis (MCL is extra-articular)
MCL provides restraint:
Primary: valgus and lateral rotation of the tibia on femur (screw home mechanism)
Secondary: Anterior and Posterior Translation
Hip Open Packed Position
30 degrees of flexion, 30 degrees of abduction, and slight external rotation
Hip Closed Packed Position
Full extension, internal rotation, and abduction
Hip Capsular Pattern
Internal rotation > Flexion > Abduction= Extension > other positions
Knee (tibiofemoral) Open Packed Position
25 degrees of flexion
Knee (tibiofemoral) Closed Packed Position
Full Extension
Tibiofemoral Capsular Pattern
Flexion > Extension
Talocrural Open Packed Position
10 degrees Plantar Flexion
Talocrural Closed Packed Position
Full Dorsi Flexion
Talocrural Capsular Pattern
Plantar Flexion > Dorsi Flexion
Subtalar Open Packed Position
Inversion and Plantar Flexion
