Tinea capitis
Ringworm; common fungal infection causing a red or silver ring like rash on the skin. Can cause patchy hair loss and itchy scalp.
Dermatologic problems result from what mechanisms:
Inflammatory
Infections
Immunological
Environmental (traumatic and exposure)
Actinic keratosis
Scaly patches from sun exposure over the years. Found on face, lips, ears, neck, back of the hand and forearms.
Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN)
Skin reaction usually called by a medication. Severe form of SJS
•30% or more of the skin surface is affected; extensive necrosis and epidermis detachment
• tender, morbiliform, erythematous rash with fever, conjunctivitis, oral ulcers and diarrhea
• immediate hospitalization
What are the 2 most common causes of SJS?
Drug reaction
Viral illness
Chronic rash examples
Psoriasis or eczema
Acute rashes
Uticaria or various fungal rashes ( tinea)
Rash and Fungal infection promoted by moisture; dark tan patches with a reddish cast with sharp boarders and fine scales; more prominent on back chest and arms
tinea versicolor
seborrheic keratoses
Stuck on; oval; brown and slightly elevated from the skin surface. Rough west like texture.
flattened papule the same color as the skin,covered by a dry scale that is round and feels hard; many scattered all around; easier to feel than see - 1% of can develop in to squamous cell carcinoma
actinic keratosis
What is the most important symptom to assess for when a CC is a rash?
Itching
yellow, thickened skin with bumps, wrinkles, and furrowing
solar elastosis
leathery thickened skin on the posterior neck
cutis rhomboidalis nuchae
