Ex 4 Flashcards
What does SPO2 measure?
It measures the percentage of Hgb saturated with Oxygen
What is pleth?
It shows on a pulse ox and measures the O2 saturation level, and PPG. It can measure the changes in the volume of arterial blood with each pulse beat
What is the normal range of SPO2
Greater than 94%
Where can you asses SPO2?
Finger, toes, foot, forehead, earlobes
What is room air?
Is a mixture id oxygen, nitrogen, and CO2
How much air does oxygen make up?
In a room is normally 21%
What do the cardiac and respiratory system work together to do in regard to oxygen ?
To supply the body with O2 necessary for carrying out respiratory and metabolic process needed to sustain life.
What affect oxygenation?
Physiological factors
Developmental factors
Lifestyle factors
Environmental factors
What is supplemental oxygen considered?
It is considered a medication
Do you need an order to administer oxygen to a patient?
Yes, an order is needed.
When should oxygen be applied to a patient?
During an acute disturbance in oxygen status-
O2 status lower than patient’s baseline
RR elevated
Shortness of breath
Accessory muscle use
Decreased mental status
Why do we not want to immediately jump to applying O2 on a patient all the time?
Because patients can get depended on it
Define Titration?
Is test used to evaluate your oxygen need at rest and during exercise.
When do you titrate oxygen?
Based on the patient s/s-
If increased s/s have not improved and the patient is requiring more O2
OR
Decreased if attempting to wean off of the O2 to determine if the patient can tolerate lower levels
What is nasal cannula?
This device consists of a lightweight tube which on one end splits into two prongs
And tubing goes over and behind the ears, and wraps around the front of the neck.
