Q

Indian removal act:

A

Jackson believed it would allow to natives to keep their way of life and also allow Americans to get the land they wanted. It gave Jackson the power to negotiate resettlement treaties with the Native Americans and allowed the states to make laws governing their territory
Many tribes signed the treaties and moved West. The Cherokee however, filed suit in the US Supreme Court to stop the state of Georgia from taking their land.

South differences; what did they want?

A

Opposed tariffs because most of their cotton was sold internationally so they would not make as much profit, Opposed federally funded improvements in transportation because tariffs would be required to pay for improvements, Tariffs had been increasing for 10- 12 years; south felt like the whole nation was being run according to what was beneficial for the north.
