evry thing Flashcards
lern
what defines a pure substance
elements and compounds
what defines a mixture
a mechanical mixture or a solution
what is a homogenius matter
a homogenius matter is a matter that has the same propertys thru the who sample elements or compounds are always homogenius (mixtures may be homogenius or hetrogenius)
what is a hetrogenius matter
a hetrogenius matter is a substance consisting of2 or more visible parts that differ in properties (mixtures may be homogenius or hetrogenius)
give 10 examples of charictoristics or thing to indentify a substance with
State solide liquid gas
Colour
Texture
Lustre if it is a solid shiny or dull
\crystal structure if solid is it a crystal
Taste
Odour smell
Solubility dise it dosulve in water
Freezing / melting point when it freezes or metls
Boiling point when it boiles
Desity
give 3 examples of behaviors that a thing can have
dose it burn rot EXPLODE!!!!! Change
can properties be good and bad give a example
Corine gas was in ww2
Large amount will kill u
can be used to clen / pruifie water
asbestos fire risitent but causes cancer
what is mass
mass is a conserved quantity
what states can be poured
gas and liquids can be poured
if solids cant pour then why can you pour sand
you can pour sand because it is a lot of smaller solids

atoms and molocules are _________ of mater
particals
the first S of siasm is
all mater is made of small particals
I of siasm is
alll particals of a same substance are identical
A of siasm is
all particals of matter atract to one and other (these attractive forces get stronger as the particals go closer together. Solids have stronger attractiveness then liquid or gases )
the second S of siasm is
the spaces between the particals are large compared to the sizes of particals themself
M of siasm is
the particals of matter are always in motion (speed depends of temperature)
what is matter
matter is anything that takes has ams and takes up space
what is the effect of presure on gas
particals are moving faster hitting wals harder and being more caotic.
what happens when you add heat to something
it makes the particels move faster and the object expands in volume (gets bigger)
what happens when you cool somethign down
it slows down the particels and the object decreses in volumes (Is smaller)
what dose gas have to do to evaporate
it needs to push on out and eventuly evaporates
what is defusion
defusion is the proses witch a substance spreads spontaniously in all derections from a region of high concentration to a region of lower concentration (some times none)
what is the differance between a gas and a vapour
a gas is something that is a gas at room temporture and a vapor is something that is a gas at higher tempertures example: water is a liquid then when it is heated it turns in to a gas
