evolution and behaviour Flashcards
what does evolutionary theory propose?
our behaviours are influenced by our caveman/cave woman ancestors
how did our evolutionary past humans operate?
survival of the fittest basis
those individuals who carried out behaviours that aided their survival would be living long enough to successfully reproduce, thus passing on these adaptive traits to their children
what is changing their behaviours to increase chance of survival called?
adaptive behaviours
how are individuals who have these adaptive behaviours wiped from the gene pools?
if they survive but not reproduce, so their genes won’t be passed down- meaning their genes are no longer carried on for future generations
what is these adaptive behaviours and the genes being passed on known as?
natural selection
who developed the theory of natural selection and when?
Charles Darwin
19th century
what is the behaviour that is believed to still exist today?
mate selection
evolutionary terms: who would be attractive to females?
man with resources
why would a man with resources be attractive to a female?
shows that he is able to look after a female and later offspring
what would a young woman do to attract a mate/ male?
would indicate she is fertile and in possession of good genes
