Evidence used in classification Flashcards
1
Q
How does biochemical evidence work?
A
DNA hybridisation allows us to see differences between species. DNA is taken from 2 species and the ‘unzipped’ strands of DNA are then mixed together. Whether there are complementary base pairs, they will join together. The greater the degree of hybridisation, the more alike the species are.
2
Q
How can you measure how much hybridisation there is?
A
Heat up the hybrid DNA and the more heat needed to separate the bonds, there more matches of complementary bases there are.
3
Q
What is anatomical evidence?
A
Where scientists look at the anatomical features of one species and compares it with another.
