Evidence (Sources - papers!) Flashcards
What are the key outcomes from the PROPPR study?
No significant difference in 24 hour or 30 day mortality
Secondary outcomes: No significant difference in:
-Time to haemostasis
-Any of 23 pre-defined complications
-Hospital-, ventilator, and ICU-free days
-Incidence of surgical procedures
-Functional status at discharge
A post-hoc analysis showed that death by exsanguination in the first 24 hours was decreased in the 1:1:1
Blood product volumes transfused until haemostasis achieved – no significant difference
After haemostasis till 24 hours post-admission – significantly higher in intervention group
What was the key question in the PROPPR study?
Does a 1:1:1 ratio of plasma:platelets:RBCs improve mortality compared to a more conservative 1:1:2 ratio?
This equates to 6 units FFP, 1 pool platelets (made up of 6 units), and 6 units RBCs
