Evidence For The Existence Of Particles Flashcards
What did you observe when you added Crystals of ammonium dichromate to water in a beaker and add crystals of potassium permanganate to water in another beaker?
The solids in each beaker of water in each beaker different beaker of water changed color according to the color of either the ammonium dichromate and potassium permanganate are. The crystals move though the H20 slowing diffusing and coloring it.
What is diffusion?
The movement of particles from a high concentration to a low concentration until dynamic equilibrium has been reached. (Across a concentration gradient).
Diffusion of ammonia and hydrogen chloride, observation?
There appears to be a ring of collected water vapor or cloud in the tube and is formed closer to the hydrochloric acid.
Diffusion of ammonia and hydrogen chloride, explanation?
Because Hydrochloric Acid is an acid and ammonia an alkali they neutralize each other to form vapor. Ammonium travels faster because it is a lighter gas, it forms ammonium chloride(white solid)
