EVERYTHING Flashcards
What is the Oviduct
Tube that recives egg/ovary, fertilisation occurs here.
What is the Ovary
The place that produces eggs (ova) and makes sex hormones
What is the uterus
Hollow musclular organ where the fertislised egg implants - baby develops here
What is the cervix
Holds the fetus in the uterus - dilates 10cm fro child birth
Urethra
Passes urine from inside to outside the body
Vagina
Sperm depositied here
How long is the menstrual cycle
Varies a lot but anywhere from 28-43 days
What happens during 1-7 day of the menstrasul cycle
This starts with the first day of a womens period - The linig of the uterus comes through the vagina as blood
What happens days 7 - 13
Bloodflow stops - linig of the uterus start building up again - and a egg satrts to mature in the ovaries
Day 14 what happens
On the 14th day an egg is released by an ovary and into the oviduct
what happens during 14-17 day
An egg can last up to 3 days after it is released and travells down the oviduct and then into the uterus hoping to be fertilized
what happens day 18-28
If the egg is not fertilized to lining of the uterus begins to break down again and the cycle repeats
What does zygote mean
The new cell formed when one sperm joins with one egg
What does the testes do
Produce sperm and the male hormone testorone
What does the scrotom do
a puch of skin that holds the testes away from the body to lower temprature
What Penis do
release sperm
What does the eridicle tissue do
It contracts when a male is sexually aroused
What does the seminal vessicle do
produces semen
What does the prostate gland do
Adds fluid to sperm to create semen.
What does the vas deferens do
Transfers the sperm epididymis to the urethra
What allows girls and boys to sexually mature

What is an ejaculation
An ejaculation is when the penis stimulates and out the tip squeezes semen - about 700 million sperm are produced.
Explain the process of fertilisation
The sperm cell swims down through the cervix and into the uterus
They then go down the fallopian tube
Once they reach the egg they all swarm to it, the first sperm to bury into the egg cell and break its tail off wins
The egg completely changes its surface to make sure no other eggs can get into the egg.
The egg is now a zygote
Explain the process of implantation
The zygote begins to divide
And down they go the fallopian tube making its way to the uterus - it keeps dividing until it creates a hollow ball of cells called a blastocyst - when this reaches the uterus it burrows into the uterus lining - this is implantation, the woman is now pregnant.
What are the 3 stages of pregancncy
known as trimesters
There is trimesters - 12 weeks
Trimester 2 - 13-27
trimester 3 - 28 - 40
What process happens in the 1st trimester of pregnancy
