Due process clause
No one shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law.
under IDEA 2004
resolving disputes between parents and the school about students education - parent files complaint about child then the school and family come together to an agreement - if no agreement then a due process hearing
Anecdotal observation
A type of observation recording where an observer records all behaviors and interactions within a given time Frame
Annual goals
A goal that is reachable for a student to reasonably reach within a 12-mo period. this is a goal where skills / knowledge are being mastered not an activity
Annual review
A meeting to review the students current IEP which includes the students education program, modifications / accommodations and current educational goal - this happens every year that the allows the IEP team to revisit the IEP and make-in g sure the student is making adequate progress toward annual goal
ABA - Applied behavior analysis
application of the scientific method and behavior principles of the observation, study, and modification of behavior.
Assessment
A process that involves collecting information about a student for the purpose of making decisions. Involves gathering information about the student’s strengths and need in all areas of concern
At risk
A term used for a student who may, in the future, have problems with their development that may affect learning or development
BIP - behavior intervention plan
an intervention plan lays out how the IEP team will improve difficult behavior that is inhibiting a Childs academic success. A plan consisting of the positive intervention strategies and supports selected by the team

ALL STATES MUST identify, locate, and evaluate all children with a disability in the state who needs SPED and related services
FAPE
free and appropriate public education: ensures that all SWD have available to them that is meeting their unique needs and prepare them for further education

Stay-put rule
A student must stay in current placement until due process hearing is pending with 2 exceptions:
- hearing officer can order change
- Removal or change of placement resulting from disciplinary action becomes stay-put placement until hearing officer review
