Spirituality is the highest acquisition of the soul, “ the supreme crowning gift that makes man king of all created things. It is consciousness of victory over self, and of communion with the Infinite. It is best expressed in doing, not in dreaming. “Every noble impulse, every unselfish expression of love, every brave suffering for the right ; every surrender of self to something higher than self; every loyalty to an ideal; every unselfish devotion to principle, every helpfulness to humanity; every act of self-control; every fine courage of the soul, undefeated by pretense or policy, but by being, doing and the Iiving of good for the very good’s sake -that is spirituality .

If you want to live more you must master the art of appreciating the little, everyday blessings of life . This ls not altogether a golden world, but there are countless gleams of gold to be discovered in it if we give our minds to them.

What our deepest self craves is not mere enjoyment. but some supreme purpose that will enlist all our powers and will give unity and direction to our life. We can never know the profoundest joy without a conviction that our life is significant -not a meaningless episode .

Just as you are unconsciously influenced by outside advertisement, announcement and appeal , so you can vitally influence your life from within by auto-suggestion. The first thing each morning, and the last thing each night. suggest to yourself specific ideas that you wish to embody in your character and personality. Address such suggestions to yourself silently or aloud, until they are deeply impressed upon your mind.

And as I turned my head aside To brush away a tear, I thought how nice it was To have my son so near.
I know the Lord didn’t mean for man to toil his whole life through, “Come on, my son,” I said, “I’m sure I have some time for you.”
You should have seen the joy and sunlight in his eye, as we went outside to play -Just my son and I.
Now, as the years have flown And youth has slipped away, I’ve tried always to remember To allow some time to play.
When I pause to reminisce And think of joys and strife, I carefully turn the pages of this wondrous book of life
I find the richest entry Recorded in this daily log Is the day that small boy whispered, “I wish my Daddy was a dog.”

We would say to the brethren, seek to know God in your closets, call upon him in the fields. Follow the directions of the Book of Mormon, and pray over, and for your families, your cattle, your flocks, your herds, your corn, and all things that you possess; ask the blessing of God upon all your labors, and everything that you engage in.

Being perfect is not a vague, generalized condition, but the acquiring of key attributes.

We are to develop certain eternal attributes and to acquire certain everlasting skills. These attributes and skills are never obsolete. They are portable, being essential not only in this, our second estate, but in our third and everlasting estate.

In view of why we are here on this planet, more than occasional consideration should be given to the outcomes we are striving to achieve. Indeed, we would do well to ponder more often than we do just what it ls that “will rise with us in the resurrection.”

People move hectically but give little thought to where they are going. They seek excitement for its mere sake, as if they were lost and desperate. They take little pleasure in the natural and quiet and simple things of life.

We sometimes speak of aristocracy in the world. There is only one aristocracy that God recognizes, and that is the aristocracy of righteousness.

Instead of books, I imagine this shelf in my library to contain a great collection of human beings where I may have the best of each one as his service is needed. These great men may have set down in writing only the best one percent of themselves~ and it is in my book where they reach their greatest height of power and usefulness.

Someday, when we look back on mortality, we will see that so many of the things that seemed to matter so much at the moment win be seen not to have mattered at all. And the eternal thlngs will be seen to have mattered (even more than the most faithful Saints imagined. )

Even in the midst of Eroch’s “bltterness of soul” because of the wickedness of his brethren and their fate , he was told to “be glad and look. What did he see which brought comfort? He saw the Son of Man coming “in t he meridian of time” to effect the Atonement ! Thus, time and t ime again, we learn that the objective reality over which we are to be of goad cheer consists of those fundamental and basic blessings , such as the unmatched Atonemert, that are irrevocably in place.** The disappointments of the day must not obscure the basic blessings of eternity.**

In addition, we learn that Jesus always honors those who honor Him. As we see Shadrach, Meschach, and Abednego in the midst of the fiery furnace, it is significant that walking among them as they were there unharmed was one in form “1ike the Son of God.” Wether it is Paul in prison or three valiant young men taking a stand against a secularized king, the Lord is near” at hand in our hour of greatest need -sometimes dramatically, sometimes quietly.

They pushed him straight against the wall,
The firing squad dropped in a row;
And why he stood on tiptoe
Those men shall never know.
He wore a smile across his face
As he stood primly there,
The guns straight aiming at his heart,
The sun upon his hair.
For he remembered in a flash
Those days beyond recall,
When his proud mother took his height
Against the bedroom wall.

Decorate and furnish with love and care that inner sanctuary of yours. We take a lot of trouble buying the right armchairs, tables, pictures; certainly we should take even more trouble to adorn the invisible walls of our minds.

Talk with your eyes I While presenting a lecture, make it a practice to scan the class, looking into the eyes of individuals in the room. This gives each class member the feeling that the lesson is specifically for him. Further, make your eyes sparkle with enthusiasm. Whenever bearing testimony or expressing conviction of a principle of truth, do not look up at the ceiI ing or down at the
floor, but look squarely into the eyes of each class member. Never urderestimate the –
