Evergreen//One Flashcards

1
Q

How is Evergreen//One capacity measured?

A

a. Snapshots - Metered on the effective capacity of the diff’s.

b. Clones - are free and do not count against effective capacity.

c. Thin Provisioning - Thin provisioning works since we meter effective (pre-data reduction) against blocks written and not the provisioned capacity of the volume/filesystem on the array. (see example)

d. Zeroes are Omitted - zeroes/whitespace/unmap patterns that are larger than 2MiB do not count against effective capacity.

d. Data Reduction - Unless PRE Ratio is less than 2:1 on Block Performance, Premium, or Ultra (PRE Ratio), the customer typically should not care about this with Evergreen//One. The Evergreen//One team only needs to know so that we can properly backfill the hardware.

e. Performance - We will send out any hardware to fulfill the capacity and general performance requirement. If there is a scale-out-array situation or need for specific hardware for performance, we may have to determine a performance SLA and adjust pricing on a case-by-case basis.

d. Creative Pricing - is available for opportunities for creative deals: less than minimums or 1PiB+

f. Sites - There is typically one effective capacity across the arrays per site.

Q

What are the Evergreen//One value propositions / benefits / key selling points?

A

EASY TO SIZE - Usage is based on either effective capacity, VM instance (VM Analytics Pro) counts and/or performance needs on day-1. No more need to plan for over-provisioning or data reduction*.

ELIMINATES PROCUREMENT CYCLE/MINIMIZES RISK- Customers grow and shrink as needed (true OPEX as opposed to a lease) starting at as little as 12-month subscriptions.

GREAT FOR LIMITED BUDGETS - Customers only need to pay for what they need when they need it, no more over-spending for unused capacity.

DESIGNED FOR HYBRID CLOUD STRATEGY - Portable subscription between on-premise and cloud with a full catalog of services.

SIMPLIFIES ACCOUNTING - Stays off the customer’s books since Pure owns the equipment.

FULLY SUPPORTED - Pure provides premium support maintaining the equipment non-disruptively to the customer.

Q

What is the Pre-Reduced & Encrypted (PRE) Ratio?

A

The PRE Ratio is calculated by dividing the Effective Used Capacity (EUC) by the total array written used capacity. PRE Ratio accounts for Volumes, Snapshots, and Replicated data.
