Where did the Indian mutiny / rebellion begin ?

A

It began with sepoys in Meerut ( outside Delhi ) rose against their English officers and killed a number of them ( May 1857)

A

Swiftly the Sepoys took control of many northern cities ; this included a short lived attempt to resurrect the old Mughal Empire.

British rule was not entirely reasserted until June 1958 following the battle of Gwalior, south of Delhi.Peace declared on the 8th of July 1858.

some officers remained loyal to Britain
