Proclamation of 1763
King says that the colonists cannot go past the Appalachian Mountains, colonists are furious and decide to cross over against the kings’ rule.
Sugar Act of 1764
King adds taxes to sugar and molasses merchants pay the tax, colonists are slightly irritated by this but don’t do anything.
Quartering Act of 1765
King sends 10,000 troops to “babysit” colonists, colonists are required to house and feed the soldiers, colonists hated this, but couldn’t do anything.
Stamp Act of 1765
King taxes all paper items. colonists boycott, tax is repealed
Boston Tea Party 1773
8 million pounds of tea were dumped into the sea by Sam Adams and The Sons of Liberty as Protest against the Tea Tax
Boston Massacre of 1770
British Soldiers and colonists get into a fight, five colonists die, Sam Adam uses this for propaganda, British Soldiers are not guilty
Townshend Act of 1767
King places a tax on all home goods - glass, lead, textiles, writs of assistance - search warrants, colonists boycott, tax is repealed
Intolerable Acts 1774
King closes harbors, no meetings, changes governor, trials in England
First Continental Congress 1774
An official meeting with representatives from all colonies to write a plan for independence
