Dust bowl
An area of the Great Plains of the United States that suffered severely from wind erosion during the 1930s.
Dust bowl (causes)
Economic depression coupled with extended drought, unusually high temperatures, poor agricultural practices
Dust bowl (effects)
crops would rot and die, no income for families in this time of need, farm animals suffocated from all of the dust, and humans died from inhaling the dust
Harley-Smoot tariff act
a law passed by Congress in 1930 to raise the tariffs on imported goods in order to protect U.S. businesses and farmers. Ended up triggering a global trade war
Bonus army incident
A group of thousands of World War I veterans who traveled to Washington, D.C., in 1932 to request early payment of a retirement bonus to help them through the hard economic times of the Great Depression. Hoover didn’t pay them, and removed them by force.

a political scandal in which U.S. secretary of the interior Albert Fall leased national oil reserves in Elk Hills, California, and Teapot Dome, Wyoming, to two companies that had bribed him
