Q

Occupation of the Rhur

A

Germany’s economy began to encounter problems in 1921 and printed bank notes in order to make reparations, as a result Germany suffered inflation and its currency became worthless to other countries. Thus Germany was unable to continue making payments and, in January 1923, France and Belgium took over the Rhur. The German government ordered passive resistance and the workers went on strike, however the striking workers still needed to be paid and more money was printed to accomplish this. Ergo Germany suffered hyperinflation.
