specifics of Island Hopping
Island hopping was the act of attacking every Japanese stronghold. They used these islands as bases to attack Japanese ships supplying nearby Islands. Islands fell easily as they were attacked more.
purpose of the Manhattan Project
The Manhattan project was the making of the Atomic Bomb, it’s purpose was to use it as a threat in Japan.(So Japan would surrender.)

The role of the war production board was to transform American factories into making machines for war supplies and equipment.
how did rationing work and why was it set up
Rationing was set up to limit the amount of scarce items that any individual could buy. Anybody who wanted to buy rationed items,such as shoes or gas, had to provide the proper coupons along with the money.
characteristics of women during WWII
Worked as mechanics, welders, electricians, police officers, doctors, taxi drivers, and railroad workers. They were only paid 60 percent as much as men doing the same job. Criticized as being ‘unfeminine’ for working in dirty jobs. They were thankful not only for their money but for the opportunity. Were given non combat jobs because men thought they were needed and better than women.
the role of African Americans in the military during the war
Assigned non combat jobs such as driving trucks and cooking. Soon after, they were able to be assigned in every combat position such as fighter pilots, to tank operators, to sailors.

It showed the Japanese what would happen if they tried to mess with us. Japanese would never again directly threaten the U.S(May 1942)

Britain and France demanded for Germany to withdraw from Poland.(They invaded)

They had jobs that included explosives that easily could be messed up.
How did the government ration food supplies during the war
They gave out a certain amount of rationing coupons per person/family.

These were like concentration camps but they weren’t as bad. They didnt get murdered but they did suffer from diseases. Kids still graduated and went to school. And people would still work.
reasons for dropping “The Bomb” on Japan
- So they would surrender
- It led to an easy end of ww2
- Saved lives of American soldiers.
- Potentially saved the lives of Japanese soldiers and civilians.
- It was revenge for Japan’s attack at pearl harbor.
