Evangelization Flashcards
What is evangelization
Bringing the good news of Jesus into every human situation and seeking to convert individuals and society by the divine power of the gospel itself. At its essence are the proclamation of salvation in Jesus Christ and the response of a person in faith which are both works of the spirit of god.
Evangelization vs. Proselytization
Evangelization is directly connected to Jesus Christ, and it is to bring people into a relationship with Jesus.
Proselytization is an act of making covenants. It is a pressure to convert someone.
Evangelization vs. Proselytization pt. 2
Evangelization- salvation of souls.
Proselytization- power and influence.
How are evangelization and Proselytization similar
They can be similar because they are both bringing people into religion even though they are doing it differently and for different reasons, forcing vs. Letting them choose.
What is Jesus’s great commission
He called in his followers to make disciples of and baptize all nations in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Why is it important to have a relationship with Jesus before you go out and evangelize
You cannot spread the gospel effectively if you do not know or pray to Jesus daily.
Knowing the good news vs. Knowing the cute to a disease
If you know the cure for a disease, but don’t tell anyone because you are afraid of being “pushy” or “judgy” the person wouldn’t like that you kept it a secret. Presenting them with a known solution is an act of love and fulfils Jesus’s command to “love one another” and to “go make disciples of all nations.”
Who is called to evangelize
We are all miss is our disciples. We are all called to evangelize.
What are 3 reasons Catholics are not known for being evangelistic
Lack of encounter.
Fear.
Ignorance.
How does lack of encounter with the person of Jesus affect someone ability to evangelize
One cannot share Christ if one has not first encountered Christ, or effectively share the gospel without experiencing it’s power in his own life. Not everyone has experienced this encounter with Christ.
What are 3 types of gear people experience
Fear of inability.
Fear of rejection.
Fear of failure.
What would you need to know to combat the fear of inability
God proves nothing is impossible with him. God is not interested in ability, but in availability. We must trust he can use us, in spite of our weakness.
What would you need to know to combat the fear of rejection
Jesus was rejected and persecuted. It is the cross that we have to bear as Christ did: with great faith and humility.
What would you need to know in order to combat the fear of failure
God causes the growth. He brings forth new life. We must place our firm trust and hope in him.
Mother Teresa quote
“ god does not call us to be successful; he calls us to be faithful.”
