A strength of the study is that its reliable, due to it being a laboratory experiment, so the procedure was standardised.

The procedure was kept standardised as all words were one syllable, as those who speak different languages may be to an advantage. Also for every pps each word appeared for 3 seconds only.

A weakness is that it has limited generalisability due to an unrepresentative / small sample

All pps were from UK ( Cambridge uni students) so can’t be generalised to Americans for example

A further weakness is that it isn’t ecologically valid due to being artificial task

It was a lab setting which already makes it artificial. But the task of recalling the order of words in particular is completely artificial as it doesn’t resemble anything memory is used for in real life

This is a weakness because it limits the usefulness of results as they dint measure memory use & encoding in real life situations
Conclusion
Baddeley’s Study has high credibility as it has made a big contribution to our understanding of memory and it provided the basis for Tulving’s later work into Semantic LTM as well as Baddeley & Hitch’s theory of working memory.
