Q

Case study evaluation

A

Case studies offer rich and detailed insights into unusual and atypical forms of behaviour.
For example, HM revealed the importance of the hippocampus in memory.
This allows us to understand more about human behaviour that could not be investigated using traditional research methods such as experiments

Researchers become very involved in case studies which can reduce their validity.(researcher bias)
Case studies usually happen over a long period of time and involve getting to know
bias

Q

Content analysis evaluation

A

Content analysis produces data that is high in ecological validity. For example, analysing TV adverts for stereotypical gender roles in 2019. This means that media being studied is based on what people actually do or how things happen in the “real world”

Content analysis tells us what rather than why. For example, it tells us how many adverts show stereotypical gender roles. This means that there is no meaning behind the data, we do not know why traditional gender roles are still shown on TV.

Q

Correlation

A

Correlations are relatively quick and cost effective to carry out There is no need for a controlled environment and no manipulation of variables is required, Secondary data (data collected by others) can be used, which means correlations are less time consuming and less expensive than experiments

As there is a lack of experimental manipulation and control within a correlation, studies can only tell us that variables are related. For example, are the temperature increases so does the number of ice - creams sold. However, they cannot tell is why they are related. This means that correlations cannot establish cause and effect.

Q

Mean evaluation

A

Advantages: more representative than mode and median
Considers all the data

Limitations: is easily distorted can become easily unrepresentative

Q

Median evaluation

A

Advantages: easy to calculate, extreme scores don’t affect the median
Limitation: dosent represent all the data

Q

Mode evaluation

A

Advantages: easy to calculate
Disadvantages: crusade measure dosent consider the whole set of data so not representative
